What is the right side of Pul fabric? The right side of PUL is a polyester knit and the wrong side is the laminate which is smooth and shiny. It doesn't really matter which side of PUL you use as far as its waterproof properties go, but often the polyester knit side is used as the right side showing the pattern.

There are numerous factories these days pumping out PUL — which is all slightly different, since there are several ways to adhere the layers together, and most major brands have their own PUL manufactured to their specifications.

As you probably know already, diaper manufacturers generally advise against exposing PUL to high heat. They recommend wash cycles of no more than degrees and to dry on low. Then why the often-seen recommendation to dry a diaper on high heat to seal or reseal the PUL? When you sew PUL does it create holes? Yes, this is an undisputed fact. So do the holes really need to be sealed up?

This is something you need to do anytime you sew with PUL and you want it to remain waterproof. If not, then you cannot be sure they will not leak…The only way to close these holes is to put the article in a dryer and allow the laminate to shrink around the hole. Are factory-made covers already sealed for you? Not necessarily. I should also mention that the Flip covers made by Cotton Babies have a second piece of fabric on the inside of the diaper to cover the holes made by snaps or hook and loop.

From one mom of 5 to another can you help me out? I am trying to sew an absorbent pad onto underwear that I bought with a PUL layer in them already. They advertised absorbant material but it is literally cotton jersey and one layer of PUL. When I sew the pad on with my coverstitch twice as many rows of needle holes was my first issue… it leaks. Is there any way to sew it into the underwear and have the holes in the PUL not leak?

Sadly that is a drawback of the PUL the needle holes do not close all the way back up. A good amount of heat on those holes will shrink them though. I would try to use a hot steamer or to steam them then maybe put a sheet of butcher paper over the area and then iron it to further close the holes.

I would practice on a scrap before committing to it on your hard work. Let me know if it works! Best of luck! Your email address will not be published. This site uses Akismet to reduce spam.
