Apparently the hormones that control your appetite are slower to kick in when the temperature drops. In a Yahoo thread on the topic of why restaurants are always freezing, several users backed up that idea. When they are hot they eat less. This is because digestion uses energy which raises your temperature. Restaurants are in the business of selling food….

The last real reason is that the workers have to be comfortable and presentable…who wants to be waited on by someone who is miserable from the heat and sweating like a pig?

So next time you go out for dinner, cut the employees some slack and bring a sweater or a jacket. If the sun is still shining ask for a table near a window, or if there is outside dining maybe try that next time. And sometimes if you ask nicely to turn down the air conditioner they will be happy to do so.

But be advised that usually, they will just tell you they turned it down when they really did not. Why do restaurants keep the temperature so low?
